Description:
The COFA project aims to develop, innovative and effective strategies for revitalizing post‑mining lands, transforming them into productive and environmentally friendly agricultural areas. The project will examine the concept of carbon farming as an advanced approach to agriculture‑oriented reclamation, considering its potential to climate change mitigation and adaptation.. . The project’s scope will also include assessing the suitability of post‑mining lands for cultivating energy crops, thereby increasing the biomass potential of regions on the path of the energy transition. The main outcome of the project is the Agricultural Toolkit online platform - containing a geospatial database, calculators for carbon farming and energy crops, and practical guides supporting agricultures land reclamation. A multifaceted approach that takes into account environmental, legal, social, and economic aspects will enable the development of scenarios for transforming post-mining areas into sustainable agricultural land.
