The kick-off meeting of the SEDAS – Safe and Effective Decommissioning of Arch Supports project was held at the GIG-PIB headquarters in Katowice.
The project focuses on developing and demonstrating a safe, effective technology for the decommissioning and recovery of steel arch supports in galleries undergoing closure, as well as preparing operating procedures, risk and OHS assessments, and environmental and business analyses that support the efficient use of recovered steel. The project is delivered by an international consortium: Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute (GIG-PIB, coordinator), Military University of Technology, Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, Universidad de Oviedo, and the National Institute for Research and Development in Mine Safety and Protection to Explosion (INSEMEX) Petroșani; associated partners include Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A., Polska Grupa Górnicza S.A., Węglokoks Kraj S.A., Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului S.A., and Hulleras del Norte S.A.
