On April 16th, 2026, the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute hosted a meeting with a delegation of representatives from the State Great Khural (the Mongolian Parliament) and the Mongolian mining sector. The delegation was led by Ms Oyundari Navaan-Yunden, Mongolia’s Ambassador to Poland, and Mr Zoljargal Jargalsaikhan, Chair of the Mongolian-Polish Parliamentary Group in the Great Hural of Mongolia.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to share experience and showcase the research and development potential of GIG-PIB. The guests were introduced to the Institute’s key areas of activity, including modern solutions for the development and exploitation of deposits, the utilisation of methane from coal seams, the reclamation of post-mining areas, and innovative mining waste material processing technologies. Proposals for cooperation in the following areas aroused particular interest:
- the efficient exploitation of deep coal seams,
- the use of methane as an energy source,
- mining waste management and the rehabilitation of post-mining areas,
- the application of modern radiometric methods,
- and innovative technologies for the extraction of mineral resources.
In Mongolia, the mining sector remains a key pillar of the economy, generating around 25–30% of GDP, and currently faces new challenges related mainly to the development of new coal resources and reducing pressure on the environment.
