We’d like to invite you to the Multi-stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination Workshop for the results of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel funded project called Establishing a Research Observatory to unlock Coal seams for Carbon dioxide Sequestration (ROCCS) and enhanced coalbed methane recovery.
This one-day event organised jointly with the Główny Instytut Górnictwa, will be held on Tuesday 20th of June 2023 at the Institute headquarter in Katowice.
ROCCS is a large and prestigious project aiming to tackle a critical challenge of utilising local, geological resources to support energy safety as well as its sustainability, in particular decarbonisation of industry.
The work is being carried out by Cardiff University, UK (coordinator), Główny Instytut Górnictwa, Poland, Helmholtz Zentrum Potsdam Deutschesgeoforschungszentrum GFZ, Germany, as well as industrial partner Polska Grupa Górnicza SA, Poland.
ROCCS tackles a critical challenge of utilising local, geological resources to support energy safety as well as its sustainability, in particular the decarbonization of industry. The project has conducted an in-situ test to evaluate the benefits of enlarging the coal-CO2 contact area to improve rates of CO2 sequestration. A test facility was established at Experimental Mine Barbara (EMB), Mikołów, Poland. CO2 injection tests have been performed using a horizontal well with an in-seam length significantly larger than in past tests. This complex project is due to be completed by the end of August 2023.
The programme for this multi-stakeholder event covers addresses and presentations from policy-makers and end-users, technical discussions about ROCCS project outcomes and a session about next steps. Detailed agenda is attached below.
The whole event will be bilingual with simultaneous translation from Polish Language to English Language and vice versa. Also, presenters that won’t be able to participate in person, will have possibility to participate remotely via provided digital platform.
