The Silesian Centre for Environmental Radioactivity at the Central Mining Institute has been mandated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to represent Poland as Program Manager in the consortium implementing the CONCERT project.
The CONCERT European Joint Programme for the Integration of Radiation Protection Research is carried out within the framework of the European research program Horizon 2020. Its aim is to integrate activities in the area of broadly defined radiation protection and nuclear safety undertaken by all Member States of the European Union. Funding of the project is based on the COFUND Action Programme (European Joint Programme, EJP). This is a new solution in terms of funding research projects from EU funds. As the rules state, direct participation in the consortium requires the declaration of accession of a national body responsible for research program funds (Program Owner) or recommendations given to the institution responsible for the implementation of research programs in this area (Program Manager).
GIG’s involvement in the CONCERT project also allows other Polish scientific institutions involved in broad nuclear safety and radiation protection to participate, through GIG, in consortia dealing with the preparation of tender proposals within the EJP solution. Participation in such international research projects is extremely important both because of the tightening standards for radiation protection published in the new EURATOM directive and due to the national program of nuclear power development.
