On February 4-8, 2019, professor Stanisław Prusek, the Director of the Central Mining Institute, participated in the Polish delegation to India and Bangladesh, led by Grzegorz Tobiszowski, the Deputy Minister of Energy. The main subject of the talks was the cooperation in the mining industry. On February 4, 2019, in New Delhi, a special memorandum of cooperation between Polish and Indian companies from the mining sector was signed during a formal meeting with the participation of officials such as H. P. Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Coal and Mines of the Republic of India.
“Poland has broad experience in the mining sector, while our companies implement modern technologies, undergo dynamic development and remain competitive on the international market. We can offer practical support, the exchange of knowledge and experience as well as supply technological solutions, machines and mining equipment,” minister Grzegorz Tobiszowski stated during the meetings.
Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, the Minister of Energy of West Bengal, was very interested in the topic of clean coal technologies and in the possibility of cooperation with Polish scientific institutions such as the Central Mining Institute. The members of the Polish delegation also participated in the Bengal Global Business Summit that took place in Kolkata.
India is one of the fastest growing economies among the G20 countries. The average yearly increase of the Indian GDP for 2018-2022 is predicted at a level of 7.3%. The Indian government strives to increase the yearly coal output from the 708 million tonnes of 2016 to a billion tonnes by 2020.
The Bengal Global Business Summit attracts the most important business representatives of India and other South Asian countries, and provides an excellent opportunity to present Polish companies and discuss the possibility of cooperation with local partners. Participants in the conference include representatives of industry branches such as energy, metallurgy, mining and clean technologies. The Silesian Voivodeship signed a memorandum of cooperation with West Bengal in 2017.
