On 18 - 19 April 2023, the Central Mining Institute hosted a meeting launching the MAURICE project co-financed under the Interreg Central Europe Programme.
The MAURICE project aims to increase the climate resilience of Central European regions in terms of urban water resources management by jointly developed climate change adaptation solutions.
Climate change poses a threat to the availability of water resources in many Central European countries. Regions should increase their resilience to extreme weather events such as droughts and urban flooding, as well as the depletion of urban groundwater resources. Both declining groundwater levels in the long term and emerging overdrafts in the short term are serious threats that need to be addressed through appropriate water management practices. The planned activities in this field within the MAURICE project will be carried out in Milan (IT), Stuttgart (DE), Novi Bydzov (CZ), Jaworzno (PL), Ljubljana (SI) and Varazdin (HR). A total of 11 organisations are involved in the project, which will jointly develop and implement 6 pilot actions, 8 solutions, and 6 action plans and strategies for cities, regions and related water management organisations.
During the three years of cooperation, actions will be taken to raise the awareness of local and regional decision-makers through the implementation of jointly developed good practices for adapting regions to climate change in the context of urban water management.
