A visit of the delegation of the Alegerian National Agency for Mining Operations (Agence Nationale des Minieres Activities - ANAM), led by ANAM’s President, Mr Hacene Hariati, took place in Poland from 11-16 December 2016. It is the government agency responsible for, among others, granting mining licenses in Algeria, the promotion of mining operations and the evaluation of mining-induced activities on the environment. The delegation visited the Central Mining Institute for two days, where they was introduced to the activities of the Experimental Mine Barbara. The guests were particularly interested in the aspects of using explosives for civil use, the certification process and the requirements of the ATEX Directive concerning the use of equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
During the meeting at the Institute, GIG’s experience in the implementation of projects related to work safety in the industry and the implementation of pro-ecological solutions was presented. PhD Jan Bonadruk, Deputy General Director of GIG for Environmental Engineering, while presenting the Clean Coal Technology Centre, highlighted the research infrastructure of the Centre, which consists of laboratories and pilot plants. It enables research to be conducted and services to be provided in the field of low-carbon energy production from fossil fuels and the use of coal to produce process gases, e.g. hydrogen, including the monitoring of the environmental situation with the use of modern analytical techniques. The guests visited the Maria Goeppert Mayer Silesian Centre for Environmental Radiometry, the most modern laboratory in Poland which carries out research into natural radioactivity. During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation involving mining operations, safety of work, certification of products as well as the specialized training of ANAM’s engineering staff were discussed.
The visit of the Algerian delegation reflects the recovery and development of mining activities in Algeria and the implementation of an intergovernmental agreement by a joint Algerian-Polish Commission on economic, trade, science and technology cooperation.
